Mrs Mossop refused to sign up as a fee-paying patient. Instead, she and her husband Ian registered their children Nathaniel, four, and Abigail, two, with Dental Direct in the search for a new NHS dentist. They are still on the list.

The emergency dental service exists to provide emergency dental treatment to patients whose oral health would otherwise worsen significantly or who are in severe pain. The service is not designed to provide routine dental treatment to patients.

2006-08-18 News-Health-40,000 patients vanish from NHS dentist lists in one year

All you sweet eating whiny mouthed people out there who expect the scottish government to pay for everything should take a look at yourselves before blaming the SE for the problem with the dental program there. I lived there most my life and realised early on that we Scots expect everyone to take care of our problems except ourselves. Pay up or Shut up. The dentists are getting smart, they know its a lucrative business to go private. I suspect more doctors will get the idea soon as well, then where will you all be Why dont you quit buying so much junk food (including all those lagers at the pub) and put that money aside for getting your teeth fixed and keeping them that way. The Scottish diet is the biggest problem facing NHS dentists and in fact all dentists in Scotland. Here in California it costs a bundle to live but

Richard Cann, chairman of the Bermuda Dental Board, said that a judicial review application by Dr. James Fay, claiming that the Boards decision to find him and his former hygienist guilty of professional misconduct and inefficiency was "irrational, motivated by spite and improperly reasoned", had failed.

The Bermuda Dental Board has issued a statement on this weeks court ruling involving a Paget dentist.

The Judge said in his ruling that the current laws governing dental standards were "inconsistent with the constitutional right to a fair hearing before an independent and impartial tribunal".

A Paget dentist embroiled in a long-running employment dispute had his name cleared yesterday, after a judge ruled that he was not given a fair hearing by the Bermuda Dental Board.

And he added: No doubt the Minister of Health, in consultation with the Dental Board, which will in turn consult the Dental Association, will consider appropriate legislative action to ensure that the dental disciplinary regime is appropriately modernised.

Lawyer David Kessaram, for Dr. Fay, had said the facts of the case did not amount to disgraceful conduct by the pair, even if dental rules were breached. The Board, in response, said Dr. Fay and Mrs. Payne were guilty because they did not read the regulations relating to their positions.

2006-08-18 The T Factor In Indian Dentistry-Market-Express Healthcare Management

NRIs have been trooping to India for dentistry for as long as 30-40 years now. But experts hold that real dental tourism is when foreign patients come to India in large numbers solely for treatment purposes. "If a single patient visits a dentist once in a while, then this is not dental tourism. When we have large volumes of patients visiting many dentists all over India, we can say there is business," opines Dr Ajay Kakar, Periodontist, Mumbai. Experts say that dental tourism in India is still in its infancy and growing at the rate of around 20-25 per cent annually. On an average, every dentist in India has 25-30 foreign patients annually.

The 40-foot dental coach, staffed by a dentist and two assistants, will have three treatment areas. It will be operated by HealthPoint Family Care, a private, nonprofit primary care medical and dental practice with eight offices in Northern Kentucky.

Tooth decay is the most common infectious disease among children. Lower-income children suffer the most, Goddard said, because their families are less likely to have dental insurance or the money to pay for dental care. The dental van, with the capacity to treat more than 5,000 children a year, will travel to schools with high enrollment of low-income children.

2006-08-18 News-Sentinel Something to smile about

Nationally, only 20 percent to 30 percent of children covered by Medicaid see a dentist yearly. According to an American Dental Association report, only 33 percent of Hoosier children enrolled in Medicaid saw a dentist in 2004, partly because of the lack of Medicaid providers but also because parents and grandparents do not prioritize dental care.

Some dentists want to avoid complex patients who require many visits at Medicaid rates, referring such patients to other dentists. Thats what happened to a 12-year-old girl Pham treated in Atlanta. She came to Pham, with infection draining out of the side of her jaw. The girl had been to other dentists who gave her medication but no further treatment. When she came to Pham, he pulled the infected tooth and gave her antibiotics and follow-up care.

Christine currently holds the position of dental director at Pueblo of Isleta Dental Clinic. She started at Isleta as a staff dental hygienist shortly after graduation. Within one year, she had taken on the managerial role of dental director. The clinic has grown from having one part-time hygienist and one full-time dentist to one full-time hygienist and one part-time hygienist, two full-time dentists, several contract dentists, two dental specialists, and five dental assistants. Her efforts have allowed the clinic to treat more patients and really enhance dental care for the Pueblo. In addition, Christine wrote the proposal to allow the Pueblo of Isleta to run the program apart from the Indian Health Service, thereby dramatically increasing the budget.

2006-08-18 United Press International-Consumer Health-Children drink more soft drinks than milk

When teeth come in frequent contact with sweetened soft drinks and other sugar-containing substances, the risk of tooth decay, which is the most common childhood disease, is increased as is the potential for erosion of tooth enamel," said Kimberly Harms, a dentist with the ADA. "Kids and teens are more susceptible to decay from soft drinks because their tooth enamel is not fully developed. "

CHICAGO (UPI) -- U. S. children aged six to 19-years-old consume significantly more ounces of soft drinks each day than milk or juice, says the American Dental Association.
