In Kansas, once a year, they have a free dental clinic weekend. It is usually held in Salina, which is about the middle of the state. It is great. The only problem with it is, those who already receive dental care through medicaid go there, instead of a dentist throughout the year in their own area, hence, those who really need the clinic usually do not get seen even after waiting approx. 4-5 hrs per day in line. But those fortunate enough to get to see a dentist get fantastic care from a dentist who has donated his time for the weekend to help with this worthwhile clinic. Ususally around 15-25 dentists from around the state take part in this as well as dental hygenist (sp), and other dental area workers. My hats off to Kansas. "

2006-08-15 Milestone Scientific Receives FDA Clearance of Single Tooth Anesthesia Device: Financial News - Yahoo. Finance

The STA is a Computer Controlled Local Anesthesia Delivery Device that utilizes Milestone Scientifics patented CompuFlo pressure measuring technology to provide audible and visual "biofeedback" to the dentist by measuring the pressure at the tip of the needle. The device is designed to significantly improve the efficiency and economics of the dental office. The periodontal ligament (PDL) injection, which anesthetizes only the tooth that requires repair, is generally thought to be the most valuable injection for the dentist, the patient and the business of dentistry. Because PDL injections are very difficult for most dentists to administer using current techniques and can be extremely painful for the patient, dentists typically assure effective anesthetic administration by using a "mandibular block" that anesthetizes a quarter of

2006-09-25 RDH - The power of the word in Advertising

It is not merely a matter of semantics. Many people may argue that since dental hygienists are so closely associated with dentists, people will associate any activity done in the dental office as being done by the dentist. However, it is becoming more common for dental hygienists to work without dentists. The former wording disenfranchises dental hygienists from the opportunity to offer those services. Consumers who would otherwise see a dental hygienist might pass up the opportunity because they would not recognize the availability of the service. Also, consumers visiting a dental hygienist regularly, whether in a sole proprietorship or a dentist and rsquo;s office, might not trust that provider due to lack of recognition by the company.

2006-03-20 Have teeth, will travel - Health - Times Online

You could break the bank, but then again you could go to Budapest and have your veneer done for 150. Increasing numbers of people do, judging by the websites that are springing up catering to 1dental tourism1. It isn1t that dentists such as Goolnik are ripping anyone off. His fees are about average for a top dentist and not so much higher than what you1d pay for something more run-of-the-mill. If you1re lucky enough to find an NHS dentist (and only 44 per cent of the population has) you1ll be sharing him with an average of 2,275 other patients. Anything remotely cosmetic you1ll have to pay for yourself. Big jobs, such as implants, are rarely available on the NHS and your private UK dentist will charge between 11,500 and 12,000 for the work. In Turkey an implant costs 1566 and

2006-08-18 News - Health - 40,000 patients vanish from NHS dentist lists in one year

All you sweet eating whiny mouthed people out there who expect the scottish government to pay for everything should take a look at yourselves before blaming the SE for the problem with the dental program there. I lived there most my life and realised early on that we Scots expect everyone to take care of our problems except ourselves. Pay up or Shut up. The dentists are getting smart, they know its a lucrative business to go private. I suspect more doctors will get the idea soon as well, then where will you all be Why dont you quit buying so much junk food (including all those lagers at the pub) and put that money aside for getting your teeth fixed and keeping them that way. The Scottish diet is the biggest problem facing NHS dentists and in fact all dentists in Scotland. Here in California it costs a bundle to live but

2006-08-29 Dental Economics - Letandrsquo;s get digital.

Have had the opportunity to watch technology enter dentistry since the early 1970s. After a slow start, the advent of the PC and Mac made it feasible for an office to automate its bookkeeping and accounting. As peripherals have been added, computer networks have become an increasing necessity in dental offices. There are still many practitioners who have been doing well without all of the new electronics, ever depending on their outstanding skill at the dental chair to (magically) manage the dentistry. Newer dentists have grown up in an electronic world and consider many of these things second nature. There is no transition from and ldquo;the way we used to do it and rdquo; in a new, young practice. However, many older practices - with multiple technological personalities - are being passed on to new generations of dentists (many in the

2006-08-18 The T Factor In Indian Dentistry - Market - Express Healthcare Management

NRIs have been trooping to India for dentistry for as long as 30-40 years now. But experts hold that real dental tourism is when foreign patients come to India in large numbers solely for treatment purposes. "If a single patient visits a dentist once in a while, then this is not dental tourism. When we have large volumes of patients visiting many dentists all over India, we can say there is business," opines Dr Ajay Kakar, Periodontist, Mumbai. Experts say that dental tourism in India is still in its infancy and growing at the rate of around 20-25 per cent annually. On an average, every dentist in India has 25-30 foreign patients annually.

2006-08-18 RDH - Spotlight on dental director

Christine currently holds the position of dental director at Pueblo of Isleta Dental Clinic. She started at Isleta as a staff dental hygienist shortly after graduation. Within one year, she had taken on the managerial role of dental director. The clinic has grown from having one part-time hygienist and one full-time dentist to one full-time hygienist and one part-time hygienist, two full-time dentists, several contract dentists, two dental specialists, and five dental assistants. Her efforts have allowed the clinic to treat more patients and really enhance dental care for the Pueblo. In addition, Christine wrote the proposal to allow the Pueblo of Isleta to run the program apart from the Indian Health Service, thereby dramatically increasing the budget.

2006-08-14 Hearing loss and high-speed dental tools

We want to compare the hearing tests of dentists, dental assistants, and dental hygienists to those of dental students and people of comparable age in other professions," said Folmer. "We also want to examine whether theres a correlation between hearing thresholds and the amount of time that dental professionals are exposed to loud devices at work. And if dental professionals exhibit evidence of noise-induced hearing loss, can it be correlated with occupational or recreational noise exposure Our hypothesis is that if dental professionals utilize hearing protective devices, they will exhibit less noise-induced hearing loss than dental professionals who do not protect their ears. "

Whether high-speed dental tools contribute to hearing loss is the subject of a study currently underway in the OHSU Tinnitus Clinic and the School of Dentistry. According to Robert Folmer, Ph. D. , one of the study leaders, published research is mixed about whether high-speed dental tools contribute to noise-induced hearing loss over time. - Medicine/Health Dentistry/Periodontal Disease Hearing/Speech
