After a recent dental check-up, Ive decided that when people choose their dentists, they are going about it the wrong way. Maybe you ask friends and family about dentists. Maybe you look up dentist reviews on the internet. Maybe you check out the quality of the prospective dentists dental school. This is all completely misguided, and Ill tell you why: Whatever the dentist does to you, youre numb while he does it. So who cares Who you need to be checking into is the dental hygienist. She (its almost always a she) is coming at you masked and armed with a steel spike while youre sitting there unanaesthesized and defenseless. Shes the one you need to worry about.

2008-08-06 Amoxicillin: Drug Whys

And ndash; Despite widespread use, there are few data of specific incidence of amoxicillin side effects in the medical literature. The most commonly reported side effect of amoxicillin is diarrhea, often associated with abdominal cramps. Nausea, vomiting and rash are also common amoxicillin side effects. Diarrhea is a somewhat troubling symptom and, especially when very frequent and watery, requires extra vigilance as amoxicillin (along with clindamycin, ampicillin, and the cephalosporins) tend to be the worst offenders in an uncommon but very dangerous antibiotic induced pseudomembranous colitis (PMC). Other rare side effects have included hemorrhagic colitis as well as kidney and liver toxicity. Brown, yellow, or gray staining of the teeth has been reported to occur rarely and usually involves pediatric patients. Tooth discoloration

In addition to possible jail time, Strickland agreed to surrender his dental license. As of Monday, the Florida Department of Health still listed him as an active dentist who is on probation.

2008-08-05 Is a third set of permanent teeth the future of dentistry /

These three patients of Highland Oral Surgeon Dr. Eric Pulver, who worked alongside each of their general dentists, are proof that for young and old and for a wide variety of situations, dental implants are becoming the preferred option for missing teeth, over the conventional methods of a bridge or complete or partial denture.

The 52-year-old Chicago woman is on her way to having a complete second set of permanent adult teeth thanks to dental implants. Though the road is long and her case extreme, her gum disease slowly leading to the extraction of nearly all her teeth, Kus experience serves as testimony for how far dental implants have come, who they can help and why they may be edging out bridges and dentures in the dental world.

That hasnt yet been the case for Dr. Farahani, who estimated he spent an extra usd. 75,000 to open a green dental office last year but doesnt charge patients a premium. The initial cost of going green is a huge deterrent for most dentists, he said.

North Vancouver dentist Lila Nabi operates a near-paperless office at Town Centre Dental Office, and incorporates many eco-friendly technologies in her practice. But there are some things, such as patient bibs or items that go into patients mouths, that she would not reuse.

2008-08-05 Albert Leatherman was dentist in Lorain-Medical and Science News from The Plain Dealer

As a dentist, he researched treatment for Temporomandibular joint disorder, known as TMJ, in the 1970s, volunteered at Case Western Reserve University and Rainbow Babies and Childrens Hospital and served as president of the Lorain County Dental Society. He would sing and whistle while he examined his patients, said his son.

Known as "The Handsome Devil" and "Sir Laugh-a-Lot," Leatherman practiced dentistry in Lorain for 32 years. For decades, too, he performed at family weddings, reunions and even cruises, impersonating Cab Calloway and changing the words of Calloways 1931 jazz hit "Minnie the Moocher" to fit the occasion.
