For forty-something Dr. Smith, becoming a dentist was not her lifelong dream. As a matter of fact, she did not enter into dental school until the age of 30. I went to school and got a degree in business. I never once thought about dentistry, said Dr. Smith. I started working at (Johns) Hopkins in their marketing department going out and marketing HMOs. I worked my way up into management and wound up managing a dental practice in 1990 for (Dr. Katherine Collier) who had four dental offices in East Baltimore. After observing the practice she decided it was something she could do. She began taking courses at Towson University while managing the practice. On , she opened for business.
