2009-10-18 Sanidad 09 offers health, hope and connection

Medical professionals volunteered their services. One dentist, who prefers not to be named, was so excited by his participation that he suggested continuing to offer free care at his own office once a month, donating his own time while paying his staff, Canals said. That dentist has now been joined by two others who want to volunteer.

Sanidad 09 will open . This year, the week-long event offering free medical and dental services, along with evening gatherings to heal the spirit, will be hosted by the English Seventh Day Adventist Church, 14645 SW Davis Road in Beaverton. Four other Washington County SDA churches including Spanish congregations in Hillsboro, Beaverton and Tualatin and the English church in Forest Grove are sponsors.

Theirs is a mutual admiration society and both talk about their work in artist terms - color, hue, darkness and light, color value - all appropriate for modern dentistry as well as for artists. Shes talking paint; hes talking implants and crowns.

Northwest Portland artist Gwenn Seemel has swapped a portrait of Hillsboro dentist John T. Roberts for two fillings and a couple of years worth of checkups.
