The Artistic Center for Dentistry itself subscribes to a community based Green philosophy and is doing its part to minimize its carbon footprint. The Center is a chartless and therefore paperless office, an effort taken to help save trees and forests. In addition, the office reduces its waste by eliminating the use of plastic products. The Centers choice to use digital x-rays eliminates the hazardous chemicals that are used in their development from contaminating the waterways and also eliminates unnecessary radiation to its patients. The heavy equipment used is both dry and oil-less, and therefore does not wastefully deplete water supplies. Oil-less machinery also reduces the waste production of non-biodegradable materials that contaminate our oceans.

In 1958, when research into suicide was almost nonexistent and largely discouraged, the Los Angeles Suicide Prevention Center opened in a dilapidated, abandoned tuberculosis ward on the grounds of Los Angeles County Hospital.

In the 1950s, he moved to Los Angeles partly because he "could play tennis here all year," his wife said. They had four children; one, Katherine, is a doctor in Torrance on the west side of Los Angeles.
